Visitors to winery cellar doors in South Australia often run into this attractive white variety, where it has an enthusiastic following for the weight and zip it brings, especially in McLaren Vale, and there's even a little in the Hawke's Bay too. Otherwise, it's main claim to fame is as one of the four famous grapes of Madeira, performing as the off-dry style after dry Sercial but with less weight and sweetness than Bual. It is a high-yielding, early ripening variety that seems to have been present on the mainland of Portugal for hundreds of years before its long–standing association with the fortified wines from the island of Madeira. Verdelho should not be confused with the Italian grape Verdello or the Spanish white grape Verdejo grown the Rueda DO in particular.

Quality is consistent. Deeper bouquet and flavor than most Cali Zins. The Earth tones come thru beautifully about two years from Vintage. Wonderful
Red to contemplate on its own or with good food.
chianti at a good price- good value for everyday drinking
Not quite in same class as recent chianti from Wine Direct released earlier this year-but also half the price. Excellent value for a red wine: you don't have to worry about finding a superior food to match at this excellent price.
Hard pushed to find a NZ red at this price/quality ratio!
