Derrumbes Durango is made with Cenizo (Durangesis) agave in Nombre de Dios, Durango. The process of creating this intriguing mezcal is overseen dutifully by maestro mezcalero Urial Simental, from the cooking of the agave in stone pits underground using black oak, to the fermentation in underground tanks lined with pine wood and wooden stills.
The result is a mezcal with a distinctive Derrumbes character, from a region that is gaining a reputation for mezcal production for all the right reasons. Floral and earthy – there’s pollen, cut flower stems, wet clay, papaya, maple syrup and bubblegum. On the palate, it turns to sweet and fruity, with mango, strawberry, wildflower honey, and a bit of minerality tying things together. Medium bodied.
Quality is consistent. Deeper bouquet and flavor than most Cali Zins. The Earth tones come thru beautifully about two years from Vintage. Wonderful
Red to contemplate on its own or with good food.
chianti at a good price- good value for everyday drinking
Not quite in same class as recent chianti from Wine Direct released earlier this year-but also half the price. Excellent value for a red wine: you don't have to worry about finding a superior food to match at this excellent price.
Hard pushed to find a NZ red at this price/quality ratio!
